The grey NATO strap was the first NATO strap color used by the UK Ministry of Defence and all other NATO straps trace their origins back to this particular variant. The original straps were made of nylon but this waterproof silicone strap is an interesting take on the original.

The MWC Silicone NATO Single Pass Watch Straps represent one of our sleekest offerings in silicone watch straps. The smooth texture and contemporary design of these watch straps make them a perfect addition to both military and civilian watches. The single-pass NATO design allows for easy swapping from one strap to another. Additionally, they come with high quality stainless steel hardware.

History and a Further Evolution

The silicone NATO strap represents the latest evolution in the NATO strap family, building on its rich history and enduring popularity.

The NATO strap's journey began over 50 years ago with a single grey strap. It soon expanded to include additional colors such as RAF Blue, Black, Navy Blue, the iconic James Bond pattern, and Olive Green. Over the years, the range has grown extensively to feature regimental colors, Search and Rescue (SAR) orange, national colors, police unit colors, and various camouflage options tailored for specific situations.

These straps are widely used by military units outside the UK and are favored by serving military personnel for a variety of military watches. The introduction of silicone adds further versatility and durability, making the NATO strap family more robust and adaptable than ever.

Extensive Range

Currently, we manufacture nearly 200 different variants in a wide array of colors and sizes from 18mm to 24mm. These straps are available for retail and wholesale customers, and we also offer custom regimental straps. Many of these straps are sold in large quantities through various procurement contracts.

Specifications and Standards

The original specification for the NATO strap was established by the UK Ministry of Defence as Defence Standard 66-47 Issue 2, published on March 30, 2001. Previous specifications included Def Stan 66-47 Issue 1 (November 13, 1992), Def Stan 66-15 (Part 1) Issue 1 (November 30, 1973), and Def Stan 66-15 (Part 2) Issue 1 (January 31, 1974). The current specification data sheet can be downloaded here. Although minor adjustments have been made, the design remains largely consistent, with most bulk contracts requiring stitching around the buckles.
